Based on your prior knowledge, make a claim about the factors that cause inherited genetic variations within populations. Also make a claim about the effects of mutations. Write your claim in your notebook. a) For each part of your claim, conduct research to provide two examples of scientific information that supports it. (please make around 2 paragraphs)

Answer:

Inherited genetic variations are caused by the process of meiosis. Meiosis can be described as a phenomenon in which parent cell divides into four new daughter cells each having half the number of chromosomes of the parent cell. During meiosis, the phenomenon of crossing over and homologous recombination occurs which cause inherited genetic variations.

Mutations can also cause genetic variations to arise. A mutation can be described as a change in the genetic sequence which can occur naturally or can be induced. The change in the genetic sequence causes variations to arise.
