The triangles are similar. What is the value of x? Enter your answer in the box. x = two right triangles. the bigger triangle's longer leg is labeled 3 x plus 8, the shorter leg is 15 units, and the hypotenuse is 25 units. the smaller triangle has a longer leg of 4 units, shorter leg of 3 units, and hypotenuse of 5 units.

Answer:

4

Explanation:

  • let the smaller triangle be PQR and bigger triangle be ABC
  • Let, AB = 4, BC = 3, AC = 5 and

PQ = 3x+8, QR = 15, PR = 25.

  • since the two triangles are similar, we have

(AB)/(BC) = (PQ)/(QR)   ( SINCE, (longer side of ABC)/(Shorter side of ABC)  = (longer side of PQR)/(Shorter side of PQR) )

  • SO,

(4)/(3) = (3x+8)/(15)

by cross multiplying,

4*15 = (3x+8)*3

60=9x+24

subtracting both sides by 24,

36=9x

dividing both sides by 9,

4=x
