Using Subtraction Property of equality we will subtract 1 on both side we get;

`2x + 1 - 1 = 5 - 1`

`2x = 4`

Using Division property of equality we will divide 2 on both side we get;

`(2x)/(2)=(4)/(2)\\\\x= 2`

Now substituting value of x in equation y = x + 1 we get;

`y=x+1\\y= 2+1\\y= 3`
