Simon says that 7 x 2 is equal to 8 x 1 because both sets of factors add to 9. Do you agree with Simon's reasoning? Explain why or why not.

Answer:

No, I do not agree with Simon's reasoning.

Explanation:

7*2=14

8*1=8

BUT

7+2=9

8+1=9

YET

Simon isn't properly solving the equation with the right basic operation of arithmetic. He must multiply, not use addition.

Hope this helps.
