Why is glycolysis considered an anaerobic process, but the electron transport chain is not

Glycolysis does not consume oxygen at any step, whereas electron transport chain requires oxygen.

Step-by-step explanation:

  1. Glycolysis is a process in which glucose is breakdown in smaller forms without consuming oxygen at any of it step and hece it is a anaerobic process.
  2. However, after glycolysis kreb's cycle and electron transport chain(ETC) starts only if the cell have oxygen and mitochondria, this is because after glycolysis every process(i.e kreb's cycleand ETC) is completed in mitochondria which requires oxygen and hence ETC is a aerobic process.

Result: Glycolysis in considered anaerobic and ETC as aerobic.
