Answer:

The answer y = 8 units.

Explanation:

Given:

ABCD ~ FECG

EC =5

BE =5

∴ BC = BE + EC = 5 + 5 = 10 ......{ B-E-C}

FG = 4

To Find:

AD = y = ?

Solution:

If Two Figure are Similar then the sides are in proportion, and the corresponding angles are equal.

ABCD ~ FECG

(AB)/(FE) =(BC)/(EC)= (CD)/(CG) =(AD)/(FG) \\\\\therefore (BC)/(EC)=(AD)/(FG)

substituting the given values we get

(10)/(5)= (AD)/(4) \\\\AD = 2* 4\\AD= 8\units

∴ AD = y = 8 units
