2. A satellite can generate a maximum force of 550 N using its rockets. The

satellite needs to increase its momentum (impulse) by 10,200 kg m/s in
order to reach a desired orbital altitude above the Earth. How long must
the satellite's rockets fire in order to reach the desired altitude?

The satellite's rockets fire in 18.54 s

Further explanation

Given

F- Force = 550 N

I - impulse = 10,200 kg m/s

Required

Fire time

Solution

Impulse is defined is the product of the force with the time interval when the force is acting on the object.

Can be formulated :

I = F. Δt

Δt = I : F

Input the value :

\tt \Delta t=(I)/(F)\\\\\Delta t=(10200)/(550)\\\\\Delta t=\boxed{\bold{18.54~s}}
