Write and solve an equaiton of ratios, as follows:

hypotenuse to hypotenuse:

57 51

----------------- = ---------------

2x + 7 x + 4

Cross-multiplying, we get:

57x + 228 = 102x + 351

Combining the x terms on the right, we get:

228 = 45x + 351

Combining the constants on the left:

-123 = 45x, and so x = -123/45 = -78

x = -78
