Given :

A store pays $1.25 per pound for cat litter.

One cubic foot of cat litter weighs about 48 pounds.

To Find :

the selling price of cat litter in the container shown when the markup is 20%.

( dimensions are 6 in x 7 in x 9 in )

Solution :

Volume of container,

V = 6 in x 7 in x 9 in

V = 378 in³

We know, 1 cubic foot = 1728 in³.

So, weight of litter in 378 in³ is :

W = (378)/(1728)* 48\\\\W = 10.5 \ pounds

Selling price with 20% markup is :

P = [1.25+(1.25* 0.20)] * 10.5\\\\P = \$15.75

Therefore, the price of litter in 1 container of given dimensions is $15.75 .
