12. If AJKL is an equilateral triangle, JK = 13x + 5, KL = 17x - 19, and JL = 8x + 35, find
x and the measure of each side.

The value of x = 6.

The measure of side J K = K L = J L = 83 units

Explanation:

Here, Δ JKL is an Equilateral Triangle.

So, all sides of the triangle are equal to each other.

J K = K L = L J

Substituting the values of each side , we get:

13 x + 5 = 17 x - 19 = 8 x + 35

Now, comparing first and second term of the above expression,we get:

13 x + 5 = 17 x - 19

⇒ 5 + 19 = 17 x- 13 x

or, 24 = 4 x

⇒ x = 24/4 = 6 , or x = 6

So, the measure of side J K = 13x + 5 = 13(6) + 5 = 83 units

the measure of side K L = 17x -19 = 17(6) -19 = 83 units

the measure of side J L = 8x +35 = 8(6) +35 = 83 units
