So basically what you want to do is start with the distributive property.

-0.5(x+0.3) = 1.6x+0.9(x+4.8) would then equal -0.5x-0.15 = 1.6x+0.9x+4.32.

Then, add the matching terms on the right side (the x values) 1.6x+0.9x =2.5x

Your equation should the look like -0.5x-0.15 = 2.5x+4.32.

Next, add -0.5x to 2.5x giving you 3x

The equation will look like -0.15 = 3x+4.32

After that subtract 4.32 from -0.15 leaving you with -4.47=3x

Divide 3x from both sides

Your answer should be x= -1.49.
