The length of a rectangle is 1 cm less than three times the width. If the perimeter of the rectangle is 46 cm find the length and width of the rectangle

Answer:

Length = 17, Width = 6

Explanation:

Let the length be L and width be W.

L = 3W - 1 , and,

2(L + W) = 46 => L+W = 23 => L = 23 - W, putting this into L = 3W - 1

23 - W = 3W - 1

24 = 4W

W = 6

therefore, L = 23 - W = 17
