Lw + 2= A / 6 = 8.

To Start Off:

Level: Middle School

Subject: Mathematics

Lesson: Area Problems

To Set The Problem Up:

You set the problem up as A or 48 = L + 2 x L

To Find The Answer:

What are 2 factors that equal 48 that are Reasonable for this problem?

Maybe 6 and 8?

6 must be the length because the width is larger by +2.

To Solve/Work:

So L= 6 and L + 2 = W, 6 + 2= 8.

This means that Length equals 6 and Width equals 8.

Our 2 factors were correct!

Next, to find the area, we must multiply 6 and 8 to get A.

The Formula: L x W = A

So 6 x 8 = 48.

To Sum It Up:

Our final answer is 48 and it takes finding factors of the total, the area.

Most problems only give out 2/3 parts of our Formula. They want to trick you.

To put on the bow, we learned how to use the formula, which is L x W = A or A = L x W.

W=L+2

A=48=L*W

48=L*(L+2)

48=L^2+L*2

0=L^2+L*2-48

L1=6

L2=-8 (can't be used since it's negative)

Lenght=6

Width=8
