5(n - 3) = 2n ← distribute parenthesis on left side

5n - 15 = 2n ( subtract 2n from both sides )

3n - 15 = 0 ( add 15 to both sides )

3n = 15 ( divide both sides by 3 )

n = 5

That is the number is 5

Let x be the number.

5(x - 3) = 2x

5x - 15 = 2x

3x = 15

x = 5
