Answer:

w = 5

l = 14

Explanation:

We have to use system of equations here.

Let w be the width and l be the length

l=2w+4

w=l(1/2)-4

The equation is going to look like this

l+w+l+2 = 38

2l+2w = 38

Now, I will substitute l with what I said was equal to l above

2(2w+4)+2w = 38

Distribute:

4w+8+2w = 38

Combine like terms

6w+8=38

Same to both sides, subtract 8 on both sides

6w=30

Divide each side by 6

w=5

We know the width is 5, and now using the width, we can find the length, so we do 5*2+4 which is 14. Then we can plug that in:

2w+2l

2(5)+2(14)

10+28=38

Please let me know if you have any questions

Answer:

width= 14

Explanation:

Play around with numbers, i used 4, then 6, then 5 for the length. 5 is correct, do 5*2=10+4=14; 14*2+5*2= 28+10= 38

Therefore, the width of the rectangle is 14.
