Answer: the first person pays $50

the second person pays $150

the third person pays $100

Explanation:

Let x = the amount paid by the first person

Let = the amount paid by the second person

Let z = the amount paid by the third person

If 3 people by a TV for 300 dollars, it means that

x + y + z = 300 - - - - - - - -1

the first person pays 1/2 of what the third person paid. It means

x = z/2

z = 2x

Also the first person pays 1/3 of what the second person pays. It means

x = y/3

y = 3x

Substituting z = 2x and y = 3x into equation 1, it becomes

x + 3x + 2x = 300

6x = 300

x = 300/6 = $50

y = 3x = 3×50 = $150

z = 2x = 50×2 = $100
