A bakery hires summer help and increases sales by 35 percent. If the bakery now sells 405 cupcakes per day, how many cupcakes per day did the bakery sell before hiring summer help?

The answer is 300 per day. If so some unknown number (let’s call it “N”) times 135% = 405, the equation would look like... N x 1.35 = 405. Divide both sides of the equation by 1.35 to solve for N... 405 / 1.35 = 300. So they were originally selling 300 cupcakes per day.
