When ringing up a customer it takes 30 seconds to process well as 5 seconds to scan each item being purchased. If it takes 50 seconds to ring up a customer, how many items are being purchased ?

4 items are being purchased in 50 sec.

Explanation:

Given:

Time taken for process = 30 seconds.

Time taken to Scan each purchased item = 5 sec

Let the number of item purchased be x.

Total time taken to ring up customer = 50 sec

Hence Total time taken to ring up customer will be equal to sum of time taken for process and time taken to Scan each purchased item times number of item purchased.

Total time taken to ring up customer = Time taken for process + Time taken to Scan each purchased item × Number of items purchased.


50 = 30 + 5x\\5x= 50-30\\5x= 20\\x= (20)/(5)=4

Hence, 4 items are being purchased in 50 sec.
