The use of a token economy in an inpatient treatment facility involves giving people tokens that can be exchanged for tangible or intangible rewards.

Step-by-step explanation:

This token economy can be practiced in classroom management. First the target behaviors from the student need to be determined. The selection of tokens in the form of stickers or smileys can be used so that it is easily maintainable, reusable and it should under the supervision of the teacher to avoid biased. Thirdly, final rewards can be selected.

For example, the rewards can be both concrete and imperceptible. Concrete rewards include toys or game boards whereas imperceptible rewards include the sanction of extra playtime or going for an outing.

Exchange constraints can also be fixed. For example ten smileys earned by a student may make him eligible for a game board. Twenty five token makes him eligible for an outing. This ensures that the desired behavior is repeated by the student but this method also has a disadvantage which conditions him to act desirably just to earn rewards and desirable behavior does not crop up naturally.
