Answer:

a) The salary of the department head is $42,000

b) The salary of the president of the university $168,000

Explanation:

Given

Let x be the salary of one of the department of head

President salary is four times of one of the department of head

So
4x is the salary of the president.

The total of the two salary is $210,000

than
x+4x=$210000

5x=210000

x=(210000)/(5)

x=42000

salary of one of the department heads is x

Therefore the salary of one of the department heads is $42,000

president salary =
4x

president salary =
4*42000

president salary = 168000

Therefore the salary of one of the department heads is $42,000

and the salary of the President is = $168,000
