2) If two predominantly Catholic nations had a conflict today, just as Spain and Portugal did during the 15th century, do you think the pope would intervene? If not, who do you think would help settle the conflict? Explain your position. (Your answer should be three-five sentences long.)

Answer: Today the conflict is very improbable but was it improbable is also pope as a peacemaker. I believe it would be more probable European Union to play a role of a peacemaker. Pope Francisco is Argentinian so I believe he is well familiarized with both lusophone and hispanic words and could help to mediate the negotiations. I believe that whereas Portugal is perfectly united without any separatist movements or "nations". Spain is a mixture of historically autonomous countries like Galiza, Catalonia, Navarra and País Basco, Castile, Andalusia. Franco´s centralizing policy had its effects in his times but it cannot work forever .....that is the difference between Spain and Portugal. I suppose Portugal is going to be stable in terms of territorial integrity whereas Spain is going to suffer some changes (probably).
