For each of the following parts, state whether there exists an ideal gas process that satisfies the conditions given. If so, describe the process and give an example. If not, explain why such process does not exist.

(A) There is heat transfer, but the temperature of the gas does not change(Q not 0, deltaT=0).
(B) there is no heat transfer, but the temperature of the gas changes(Q=0, deltaT not 0).
(C) There is no heat transfer, but work is done on the gas(Q=0, W not 0).
(D) There is no work done on the gas, but there is heat transfer(W=0, Q not 0).

Answer:

a)

In the constant temperature process ,change in the temperature is zero and heat addition will equal to the work done by gas.

b)

In the adiabatic process ,heat transfer is zero but the change in temperature is not zero.

c)

In the adiabatic compression process ,heat transfer is zero and in compression process work is done on the gas, that is why work done is not zero.

d)

In the constant volume process work done or work done by gas is zero ,but the heat transfer is not zero.
