Answer: she is 8.06 miles from her starting point

A triangle ABC is formed

AB = distance that she walked towards west

BC = distance that she walked towards south

AC= x = distance that she is from her starting point

The diagram is a right angle triangle. So we can find the distance that she is from her starting point using Pythagoras theorem.

Hypotenuse^2 = opposite^2 + adjacent^2

Hypotenuse = x

Opposite = 7

Adjacent = 4

x^2 = 7^2 + 4^2

x^2 = 49 + 16 = 65

x = √65 = 8.06 miles
