∵ Amount of rain for 14 days =
20\ inches

∴ Amount of rain for 1 day =

(20\ inches)/(14)*31=(620)/(14)\ in=44.285\approx 44.29\ in

Hence the amount of rain the town received is 44.29 inches approximately.
