first subtract the 5 from both sides to keep it even

after subtracting the 5 you equation should look like this. -2w= -4

(1 -5 = -4)

you them divide by the -2 to get W by itself

whatever you do to one side, you always do to the other so divide by -2 on both sides

-4 ÷ -2 = 2

when dividing or multiplying it always turns to a negative

so W=2
