Several white Sox players were accused of accepting bribe to lose the game which led go the appointment of the first commissioner of baseball Kenesaw Mountain Landis who presided over the case and banned all eight player including "Shoeless Joe" Jackson (who is regarded as the the greatest baseball player of all time) in the 1920 season from the MLB. the banned also prevented him from being inducted into the baseball hall of fame.
