Do Internet users spend a different amount of time each day watching television? A random sample of 51 Internet users results in a mean time watching television per day of 128.7 minutes with a standard deviation of 46.5 minutes. Conduct the appropriate test to determine is Internet users spend a different amount of time watching television at the α = 0.05 level of significance.

Answer:

The typical American spends 154.8 minutes (2.58 hours) per day watching television

We are supposed to find Do Internet users spend a different amount of time each day watching television?

H_0 : \mu = 154.8

H_0 : \mu \\eq 154.8

n = 51

x = 128.7

\sigma =46.5

We will use z test

z=(x-\mu)/((\sigma)/(√(n)))

Substitute the values :

z=(128.7-154.8)/((46.5)/(√(51)))

z=−4.0084

α = 0.05

z at 95% = 1.96

z calculated < z critical

−4.0084< 1.96

So we fail to reject null hypothesis
