If the grandmother suffered from a genetic disease, that was a recessive, for example, then it would be important to find out if any of her offspring carried the same recessive gene.

Then, the same tests could be administered for the other person. If the test was positive for the same recessive gene, the their offspring could be afflicted. If both had he same recessive gene, then it would be important to be ready for the offspring to have a full genetic disease.
