Explanation:

multiply second equation by -2

-2 × (x+y) = 3➡ -2x - 2y = -6 now add up both equations

3x + 2y - 2x-2y = 5-6 ➡x = -1 (-2y eliminated +2y)

now use the value we found for x in the second equation to find the value of y

x + y = 3 we found x as -1

-1 +y = 3 ➡y = 4
