A farmer has 20 boxes of eggs.

There are 6 eggs in each box.
Write, as a ratio, the number of eggs in two boxes to the total number of eggs.
Give your answer in its simplest form

There is a very easy shortcut to this problem.

Since there are the same number of eggs in each box, and we are finding the ratio of the number of eggs in 2 boxes and the number of eggs in 20 boxes, the ratio will be 2:20. (Now we don't have to find the number of eggs in 2 boxes and the number of eggs in 20 boxes.)

Now, to make the answer in simplest form, divide both sides by 2:

2:20 ⇒ 1:10

The ratio is 1:10

We actually could have done this problem without even knowing how many eggs were in each box.
