Answer:

Ellen spent $2.40 on her lunch.

Explanation:

Let,

x be the total amount Ellen had.

Amount spent on lunch =
(x)/(2)

Amount left after lunch =
x-(x)/(2)=(2x-x)/(2)=(x)/(2)

Amount spent on movie =
(1)/(2)*(x)/(2)=(x)/(4)\\

Amount she has left = $1.20

Total amount = Lunch amount + Movie amount + Amount left

x =
(x)/(2)+(x)/(4)+1.20

x = (2x+x+4.80)/(4)\\4x=3x+4.80\\x = 4.80

Amount spent on lunch =
(4.80)/(2) = $2.40

Hence,

Ellen spent $2.40 on her lunch.
