In the US, many things define our culture. Some examples include independence or freedom, equality, informality, directness, and self-government. For me and the area I live in, some of the things we do that are part of our culture are the annual Halloween and Christmas Parade throughout the streets which is similar to my Mexican culture. However, instead of the traditional Halloween in my area held on October 31st, it’s celebrated on November 1st and is called Los Días de Los Muertos. They both consist of a festive parade with participants dressed up in spooky attire. The differences between the two ceremonies are the dances and music played throughout the event. As an American Mexican from decent immigrants, many traditions are heavily influenced in my life such as quinceaneras to turning 15 years old.
American culture can be seen throughout the world today. With social media, television, and the Internet, ideas and influences from our culture spread easily. This spread has been prevalent in different countries, especially within the film industry and the movie Avengers: Endgame, the second most viewed worldwide. American brands, specifically the food industry can be seen internationally such as a Burger King in Ankara, Turkey and Starbucks in Xi’an, China. Besides restaurant brands. Some of the things that have been copied in other places are playing baseball, practicing yoga, and having picnics. The origin of the sport, baseball first dates within the country of England around the mid-18th century and soon was widely spread to the United States in the 19th century. The practice of yoga origins can originate from northern India over 5,000 years ago by the Indus-Sarasvati civilization. As for picnics, originally a French term heavily used around the 17th century as “ picque-nique” for social gatherings where people bring food to share.
