then you get all the x's on one side

-x=3

get x by itself

x=-3

Explanation:

Step 1: Collect like terms... 6x+5=5x+8+2x (meaning add 5x+2x)

=6x+5=7x+8

Step2: Move Like variables to one side of the equation and change the signs of each.. =6x-7x=8-5

Step3: collect like terms= 6x-7x= -1x or -x.. and 8-5=3

Step 4: since a variable cannot be negative, you change the sign to the opposite side of the equation which would be x=-3
