The ideas of the Enlightenment were initially disseminated by philosophers and economists, who claimed to be propagators of light and knowledge, so they were called Enlightenment.
They valued reason above all, they considered it the most important instrument for achieving knowledge.
They stimulated questioning, research and experience as a way of knowing nature, society, politics, economics and the human being.
It defended freedom in politics, economics and religious choice. They also wanted the equality of all before the law.
