Below are sentences that contain a metaphor or a simile. In the blank space provided, identify which is used in each sentence by writing metaphor or simile. Then, explain what each statement means.

Example:
{Like a silent thief, the dog crept into the kitchen}.
Simile: it is comparing a thief to a dog crawling into the kitchen. It is saying that the dog is sneaky.

2) simile: It uses the key work like; comparing your thoughts to a flying butterfly looking for flowers.

3) metaphors: no key word like; comparing a room to a tomb.

4)simile: uses like and is comparing his sister to a annoying fly.

5)metaphor: it’s comparing the bed to a comforting oasis; doesn’t use like.

6)metaphor: doesn’t use like; compare a child’s tear to raindrops.

7)simile: uses the keyword like; comparing the sunshine to the warmth of a blanket.

Answer: 1, 3, and 6 were similes. 2, 4 and 5 were metaphors

Explanation: A hint, a simile is anything that has 'like' in it. It's saying one think is 'like another. Metaphor is saying something 'is' another.
