Within a case, temporary insanity is a form of defense generally use for those who have committed a crime of passion. Temporary insanity claims the defendant is deemed mentally insane during the time of the crime, but later on, is cured. Official insanity within a case justifies an individual can not distinguish reality from fantasy, is deemed uncontrollable, or can not manage their own affairs.
