Are quotation marks needed around the title of a book?

If you are referring to the title itself, quotation marks are not necessary. But if you are mentioning the title of a book within a paper you need to use quotation marks.

Answer:

Generally you should italicize the titles of long pieces of work like books or movies. Quotation marks are more for the titles of shorter works such as chapters of a book or t.v. shows.
