Two angles are supplementary. One is three times the other. Find their measures.

If x and y are supplementary, then


x+y=180

we also know that
x=3y, so the sum becomes


3y+y=180 \iff 4y=180 \iff y=45

Since x is 3 times as y, we have x=135
