The student government paid a company $225.00 to rent speakers for the school dance. They also paid the same company $300.00 to rent a disc jockey for 3 hours. If the student government paid a 5% sales tax on the rental speakers and paid an 18% gratuity to the DJ, how much did the student government pay in total for the school dance?

Answer:

The student government pay $590.25 for the school dance.

Explanation:

Given:

Rent for the speakers = $225.00

Rent a disc jockey for 3 hours = $300.00

Sales tax for the speakers = 5% of 225

=
(5)/(100) .225

Sales tax for the speakers = $11.25

Gratuity to the DJ = 18% of 300

= 0.18 × 300

Gratuity to the DJ = $54

Total payment = Rent for the speaker + sales tax + DJ payment + DJ gratuity

= $225.00 + $11.25 + $300.00 + $54.00

= $590.25

Therefore, the student government pay $590.25 for the school dance.
