ANSWER: 14

Hi!

The first thing you need to do is do the INVERSE OPERATIONS of what you are given. Start with addition/subtraction

We have 5x PLUS 10

The inverse (opposite) of adding is subtracting, so subtract 10 from both sides of the equation!

80 - 10 = 70

5x + 10 - 10 = 5x

Okay, so now we have 5x = 70. 5 and x written together signals multiplication, so that means you have to do the opposite, division!

5x divided by x = 5.

70 divided by 5 = 14

x = 14

So, your answer is 14!

You can check your answer by inserting it in the problem:

5 x 14 = 70. 70 + 10 = 80
