Answer and Explanation:

All the energy that flows in an ecosystem comes from the sun. The law of energy conservation states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, but only changed from one form into another or transferred from one object to another. Energy changes form as it flows through an ecosystem, but the total amount of energy in the system remains constant. The energy is trapped by chlorophyll in green plants and converted through photosynthesis into chemical bonds in compounds like carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and vitamins.

A small portion of energy is passed from one trophic level to the next successive level. The rest is lost in respiration, defecation, excretion and decomposition a s well as in organisms or parts of an organism in a trophic level that are not consumed. Continuous trapping of sunlight energy by photosynthetic plants maintains an uninterrupted flow of energy in the community.
