Cody worked 16 hours last week at the grocery store. His friend Sophia worked 9 less than twice the number of hours that Cody did. If Cody made $156.80 and they both make the same hourly rate, how much did Sophia make?

Answer:

After working for 23 hours in grocery store, Sophia made $225.4.

Explanation:

The number of hours Cody worked at grocery store = 16 hours

The number of hours Sophia worked = 2 ( Hours Cody worked) - 9

= 2 ( 16) - 9 = 23 hours

Now, for working 16 hours,Cody earned = $156.80

So, the per hour earning of Cody =
\frac{\textrm{Total payment he received for 16 hours}}{\textrm{16 hours}}

=
(156.80)/(16)  = 9.8

or, the hour earning of Cody = $9.8

⇒Now as Sophia has same hourly rare, so she earns $9.8 per hour.

So, total earning after working for 23 hours = 23 x ( Earning per hour)

= 23 x ($9.8) = $225.4

Hence, after working for 23 hours in grocery store, Sophia made $225.4.
