I'm thinking of a number. This

number is 12 less than its square.
What could my number be?

Explanation:

n represents the number

n = -12 + n2 reorder terms

n = n2 - 12 subtract n from both sides

0 = n2 - n - 12 FOIL

0 = (n - 4)(n + 3)

(-3,4)

So the only 2 numbers that could be 12 less than its square are -3 and 4, but I am pretty sure that they want positive numbers, so I would go with 4.

Is it 4? Because the square of it is 16 and 16-12 = 4
