A 2.0 kg solid ball traveling at 3.0 m/s strikes a 0.5 kg solid ball at rest. No kinetic energy is lost during the collision. Immediately after the collision, what is the linear momentum of the system? What is the KE of the system

Answer:

linear momentum after collision = 6 kgm/s

KE = 9 J

Step-by-step explanation:

According to the principle of conservation of momentum when two objects interact the total momentum remains the same provided no external forces are acting.

assuming no external force was acted we can say that the momentum is preserved

linear momentum after collision = linear momentum before collision

= m1*V1 + m2*V2

= 2*3 + 0.5*0

= 6 kgm/s

As no energy loss in the collision , Kinetic Energy is preserved

(Only thr 2 kg mass has a velocity , so the Kinetic Energy)

Kinetic.Energy=(1)/(2)*mass*velocityx^(2) \\= (1)/(2)*2*3^(2)  \\=9 J
