Read the paragraph.

If you get lost while hiking in the wilderness, don’t panic. Most importantly, do not walk around aimlessly. Stay on the trail. Stop where you are and observe your surroundings. Are there any landmarks that look familiar, such as large rocks, a creek, or river? Check these against your map, and check your compass. Listen for any familiar sounds—cars on a road, perhaps, or the voices of others who might help you. If you don’t hear anything, do not go any farther. Stay put, especially if you are injured or near exhaustion. If you need to spend the night in the woods, stay warm and keep yourself hydrated. Set up camp in the open, so rescuers will be able to see you. Use a signaling device, such as a mirror, a brightly colored pack, or make patterns in the snow. If you build a fire, be aware of area fire restrictions. Many forest fires have been started by lost hikers or hunters.

to inform readers what to do if they get lost in the wilderness

the author gives details about all kinds of different things to do if you’re lost. though they do mention some of the other answers, the passage was not written specifically for those ones. they talk about more then just those individual answers. overall, the author was trying to help people stay safe if they were to get lost in the woods. it gives many different ways to make sure you stay safe if you’re lost.

hope that helped!
