Ivan tried to evaluate the expression 6 - 2 + 4 x 9. Here is his work:

6 - 2 + 4 X 9
= 6 - 2 + 36
Step 1
= 4 + 36
Step 2
= 40
Step 3
Is Ivan's work correct?
ewNo, Ivan made a mistake in Step 1. Ivan should have subtracted first. The
order of operations says to work from left to right.
No, Ivan made a mistake in Step 2. Ivan should have added before he
subtracted. The order of operations says to add before you subtract.
Yes, Ivan's work is correct.

Ivan is correct, because according to PEMDAS, multiplication comes first before both addition and subtraction, so all of Ivan's steps are correct.

I believe he is correct because you add/subtract from left to right, hence

6-2 comes first.

PEMDAS

()^X/+-
