A building has 3 identical rectangular parking lots. The sum of the perimeters of the 3 parking lots is 540 feet. If the width of each parking lot is 40 feet, how many feet long is each parking lot? Show Work!

180 feet (total perimeter of each) W=40 L = 50

(40+40) + (50+50) =180 3*180 = 540

Explanation:

2 sides of each parking is 80 (40+40)

80=2 sides of each parking

80*3=240 (we need to solve for the sum of the other 2 sides)

X= the sum of the other two sides

240+x=540

x=300 (this is the sum of the 2 other sides of the 3 parking

300/3 = 100 (the sum of 2 sides on each parking is 100 So 1 side is 50 )

100+ 80= 180 ( total perimeter of each parking lot is 180)

180*3 = 540

140 feet long is the correct answer. 140 + 40 = 180. 180 x 3 = 540 :)
