Answer:

D.

Step-by-step explanation:

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a Gothic novella written by Robert Louis Stevenson. The novella was first published in 1886. The full title of the novella is "Strange case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

The indirect characterization of a character in the novel is shown by writer through his speech, actions and appearance. The indirect characterization is the phenomenon to reveal the character's trait or personality.

The novella is about Dr. Jekyll who is fighting with his dual personality of Henry Jekyll and Edward Hyde. The personality of Jekyll is good whereas the trait of Hyde is evil. Dr. Jekyll made a potion to suppress his evil nature, but instead he created a separate evil personality in the form of Hyde. Though his asserts that while doing so his motive was pure, but it turned out be a nightmare for him.

Stevenson had very craftily and creatively used the indirect characterization of Hyde to show that he is rude and uncivilized.
