Driving 75 mph, it takes Alicia 2 hours to reach the airport to go on a vacation. It then takes her 4 hours to get to her destination with the jet traveling at a speed of 400 mph. How many miles does Alicia travel to get to her destination?

To get to her destination she has 2 legs of trips. Total distance is the SUM of these 2 legs of journey.

Leg 1: Home >>> Airport

Leg 2: Airport >>> Destination

We know the distance formula: D = RT

Where

D is distance in miles

R is rate in mph

T is time in hours

First Leg of journey:

R = 75 mph

T = 2 hours

So,

D = 75 * 2 = 150 miles

Second Leg of journey:

R = 400 mph

T = 4 hours

So,

D = 400 * 4 = 1600 miles

Total Miles = 150 + 1600 = 1750 miles
