Lithium nitride has a high melting point, 813°C. Nitrogen trifluoride has a low melting point, -207°C. Explain why the melting points are very different.​

Answer:

This is because Lithium nitride is an ionic compound and the force of attractions between the lithium and nitride ions is far more stronger. On the other hand, nitrogen trifluoride is a covalent compound and it has London dispersion forces and dipole interactions which are very weak as compared to ionic interactions.
